Privacy Policy
Auto History Wipe is built to protect your privacy — so this policy is short and simple: the extension collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere. Everything happens locally on your device.
Last updated: 10 August 2026. This policy covers both the Auto History Wipe browser extension and this website, autohistorywipe.com.
In one sentence: the extension makes no network requests, contains no analytics or tracking code, has no accounts or servers, and stores every setting locally in your browser. Your data never leaves your computer.
Part A — The Auto History Wipe browser extension
What the extension does
Auto History Wipe clears your browsing data — history, cache, cookies, downloads and form data (and, only if you explicitly enable it, passwords and site storage) — on browser startup, on a schedule, or on demand. All of this is performed by your browser's own built-in cleaning API, on your device.
What data the extension collects
None. The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal or usage data. Specifically, it:
- makes no network requests of any kind;
- contains no analytics, telemetry, tracking, or advertising code;
- has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no servers;
- never reads or transmits the contents of the pages you visit, your history entries, your passwords, or your cookies — it only asks the browser to delete the categories you selected.
Permissions and why they are used
Chrome requires an extension to declare the browser capabilities it uses. Each permission is used solely to make cleaning work, on your device:
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
browsingData | The core function — asks the browser to clear the data categories you chose. |
storage | Saves your settings locally (chrome.storage.local). Nothing is stored remotely. |
alarms | Runs scheduled cleaning (e.g. hourly, daily) even when the popup is closed. |
notifications | Shows an optional "Cleaning complete" message. You can turn this off. |
activeTab | Lets you quickly whitelist the site in the current tab from the popup. |
bookmarks (optional) | Requested only if you turn on "Protect bookmarked sites". It reads your bookmark URLs locally to know which sites to keep signed in. Bookmark data is never transmitted, and this permission is not requested unless you enable the feature. |
Where your settings are stored
Every setting (what to clean, schedule, whitelist, language, etc.) is stored in your browser's local extension storage on your device. It is not synced to us and never leaves your machine.
The optional statistics feature
You may optionally turn on a local statistics view (total cleans, a 7-day activity chart, recent activity). This information is stored only on your device, is never transmitted, is off by default, and can be cleared at any time from the Statistics tab.
Bookmarks are never deleted
The extension never deletes your bookmarks. Clearing history can make Chrome temporarily reset the small icons (favicons) next to your bookmarks until you revisit the site — this is standard Chrome behavior for every history cleaner and does not affect the bookmarks themselves.
Data retention and removal
Because nothing is collected or sent anywhere, there is nothing for us to retain. Your settings live only in your browser; uninstalling the extension removes them.
Part B — This website (autohistorywipe.com)
This website is an informational page about the extension. It is intentionally lightweight and privacy-respecting.
Information the website processes
- Server logs: like almost all websites, our hosting provider may automatically record standard technical request data (such as IP address, browser type, and the time of the request) for security and reliable operation. These logs are handled by the host and are not used to profile or track you.
- Language preference cookie: if you switch languages, a single first-party functional cookie named ahw_lang remembers your choice so the site shows your language next time. It contains only a language code and is not used for tracking or advertising.
What the website does not do
- No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts are loaded by the site's theme.
- No sign-up, no accounts, and no collection of names, emails, or payment details.
Third parties and links
The site links to the Chrome Web Store to install the extension. When you follow that link you are subject to Google's privacy policy. Our hosting provider processes the server logs described above on our behalf.
If we later add features such as analytics, comments, contact forms, or embeds, this policy will be updated to describe them before they are used.
Children's privacy
Auto History Wipe is a general-purpose privacy tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and post the revised version on this page.
